A First Impression

The invitation will be your guest's first impression of the style of your wedding. Today invitations vary as much as people. You can find invitations in every color, shape and size, from traditional to the contempory, modern and chic.

One of the current trends in invitations are pocket invitations. My best description of a pocket invitation is a small folder with a pocket for everything. Here are a few pictures from the Carlson Craft website of their newest "Pocket" line of invitations.

Many local weddinng professionals carry invitations as a service to their clients. Ask your wedding professionals if they offer invitations and if they offer a discount to their clients.

Katey and Josh Engagement Pictures

This post is from Jeremy and Melody Carpenter's Blog.

Katey and Josh are getting married in May and they are absolutely adorable. They were all about having fun and their pictures are evidence of this. I loved Katey's shoes in the first set of pictures. She was telling me how she loves to buy these crazy shoes for fun. What girl doesn't love shoes? Anyway, we look forward to capturing their special day...it will be here before we know it. Katey and Josh...it was so good to see you--I look forward to sharing the rest of the pictures with you. Take care!!

Dustin and Sarah 12.29.06

Dustin and Sarah were married on December 29th.....an unusually warm and beautiful December day in Indiana. B & C Digital Media Productions shot the video and Jessica Strickland was the photographer.

The following is from Jessica Strickland's January 9th blog post.

"Wow…where do I begin about this fantastic wedding, this amazing couple and their terrific families? I guess by saying that I just ADORE Sarah, Dustin and their families and enjoyed their wedding soo very much! I have worked with Sarah’s family for quite some time and they are genuinely the kindest people! The minute I heard that Sarah and Dustin were engaged, I was soo excited because I knew it would be an absolutely gorgeous wedding (with gorgeous people!) and that the day would be soo enjoyable because of the great people involved! It exceeded my expectations because it was that and SOO MUCH more! It was an incredible day….it was almost 60 degrees and beautifully sunny! We all had to keep reminding ourselves that it was the end of December and sure not to last, but we were definitely enjoying it while we could! The wedding was incredibly intimate, soo warm and truly beautiful! I also had a super fun day working with my close friends, videographers Brandon & Cybil New of B&C Digital Media and the uber talented florist and designer Gene Huddleston with Detail & Design, who created the reception wonderland! It was truly a fantastic day, was perfect in all ways and I was soo honored to be a part of it!"

Here are a few more pictures from Jessica's blog.

Bridal show at the Conrad

This is from a post on the IndyVisual blog by Bob Ridge. Photos courtesy of Andrew Scalini.

I had one of my more enjoyable marketing and networking experiences last night at the Platinum Wedding Gala presented by the Perfect Wedding Guide and the Conrad Hotel. I knew there would be a lot of high-quality vendors there, along with some wonderful bridal prospects, but I was pleasantly surprised with how beautiful and synergistic a night it turned out to be for everyone. For starters, the ballroom was beautiful! The way that designer Gene Huddleson of Detail + Design, Gloria Boyden of Events by Design and Teresa Gift of Eventfull Planning among others transformed an already remarkable space was visually inspiring. Tonya Shadoan of Circle City Planners was there earlier, lending a hand and ribbing me for not working out and tanning yet for our April destination wedding in St. Kitts. It was great to see Gary Bravard, whose extravaganzas I had covered about a dozen times in the 90's, back in his element helping Gene out as well. The above photo shows what the room looked like, courtesy of photographer Andrew Scalini.

Fellow videographers Ryan McKeever of
Magic Hour Productions and Jason Girt of Creative Eye Productions were there, so it was fun to catch up with them before the show started. Ryan's doing some amazing things in the corporate video world in addition to the great work he does with events, and Jason's family is now in the honeymoon business with a newly purchased condo in Maui! Jason invited us to fly out there together sometime and have a creative powwow. Twist our arms, Jason! ;)

Once the brides showed up, we all had a chance to mingle and market at a much calmer pace than the typical bridal show parade. The way the vendors, all of whom had worked with each other often, were able to vouch for each other made for a higher-quality impression on each bride. For example, at least in my corner of the room, when a bride would stop to admire photographer
Jessica Strickland's images at Eventfull Planning's table next to me, I would "conveniently" have a video from that same wedding playing on my plasma screen, and Teresa suddenly had a nice multimedia presentation. Or when a bride asked about a date that I was booked, I could just point to Ryan's table and send her there. Or if a bride asked DJ Sunny Moon on the other side of me about a video she enjoyed on his display, he could just pat me on the back and say, "Here's the guy who shot it right here!" There was a nice moment was when a bride was asking the Conrad's Liz Mok and Sunny about how a wedding and reception might look in a certain layout in that ballroom, and I just said, "Here, take a look," and played Sara & Alex's highlight video from 1/6/07 for her. Interestingly, she had long ago booked about four or five of the vendors who ended up in that corner of the room including myself, so she must have been pleasantly surprised to see us all there in one place.

The brides sat down for about an hour to enjoy a presentation, first by Gene, who did a great job despite learning just hours earlier that he would be speaking. Then nationally reknowned bridal consultant Susan Southerland of
Just Marry! in Orlando shared some creative ways to incorporate visual inspiration into an event without breaking the budget. My favorite image that she showed was of an already existing multi-million dollar bridge made of ice on which the couple exchanged vows for their winter-themed wedding. Capping it all off was "Project Runway" designer Austin Scarlett, who got the biggest superstar reception and showed off some of his latest bridal fashions, this one captured again by Andrew.

The presentation was followed by more high-quality face time between vendors and brides, and much chocolate. What made the night even sweeter was some unexpected visits throughout by friends like Carrie Sprague, Amanda Coffey and Maureen Boulanger from the Omni Severin, Monica Richards from the Indianapolis Museum of Art, and consultant Leslie Jones. It was great to see all of you there, and if I can book a bride or two from the show as well, that'll be the icing on the cake!

Sunshine and Beaches - A Destination Wedding

Contributed by Beach Bum Vacation
Marcie and Erich were married at Beaches Negril on February 10th.

"The wedding was romantic, intimate and heart stopping. We were overwhelmed with joy and the beach's sand was soft and fluffy on our feet during the ceremony. Our reverand was wonderful, leading us smoothly through the most important event of our life. The staff did everything we asked, were easy to work with and we were able to go with the flow. It was the best day of our lives. " "Beaches Negril was amazing. Everyone continues to rave about this fabulous location, set in the crystal perfect waters of the Carribean. We could not have dreamed up a more perfect beach to be married on!!"
"Beaches Negril was fabulous, with its all inclusive, no-wallets-needed atmosphere. We all took full advantage of the swim up bars, the awesome food selection (yummy!) and the insanely fun water slides. We couldn't have asked for a better place to take our guests. "

"If anyone ever asks me what I would change, I would definitely say NOTHING. If someone asked me what they should do? GET MARRIED ON THE BEACH!! I cannot say enough good things about our wedding. It was
brilliant!!"

"And, Hayley, honestly, from the bottom of our hearts, you were amazing. Without you, this would have never come together so well. You made this happen for me and I will forever be indebted to you. We could not have asked for better customer service. "No worries, mon," is an understatement of the service we received from you and it overwhelms me with joy to know you will forever be in charge of my traveling adventures!!"

Marcie and Erich had a reception for family and friends at the Stutz Car Room.

J. Ryan Entertainment

There's a new DJ in town...well not exactly a new DJ...but a new company. Jason Hiemstra has spent the last 4 years entertaining crowds at parties and wedding receptions as a mobile disc jockey for DJ's Direct. He served as one of their most requested DJ's over the past 3 years.

Over the winter, Jason made the decision to start his own company J. Ryan Entertainment.

"I cannot thank Jeremy Gearries (owner/DJ's Direct) enough for all that he has done for me. His insight into the profession and the Indy wedding industry has been such a blessing to me. The professionals that I have had the pleasure to work with and get to know have encouraged my growth and confidence to start J. Ryan Entertainment. I am very excited about this new venture!"

Jason is currently accepting bookings for 2007 and 2008 events. You can find all of his contact information on his website www.jryanentertainment.com
