Because today's couples are waiting later in life to marry and because so many live together prior to the wedding, they are finding that they don't need or want to register for the "normal" wedding gifts of dishes, towels, bedding, etc. Many couples are coming up with other ideas.
According to an article at About.com, couples are registering for everything from a new Mercedes to a charitible contribution. "We registered for Tiffany white china," says Sasha Charnin Morrison, the fashion director of Allure, "but we also registered for a Nintendo and games at Macy's. It was just so much more us." Another couple asked for donations for their mortgage. (To read the entire article, click here.)
Don't be afraid to think "outside of the box" when it comes to registering. Beach Bum Vacation offers a honeymoon registry. It may be your chance to go on that dream honeymoon that you otherwise wouldn't be able to enjoy. Also, ask your other wedding professionals if they offer a registry. If they don't have a program in place already, they can most likely work with you to set something up.
